Want To Fail With Me: Lets Help Each Other Succeed

by BluePop13 on March 15, 2010

First of all, what a title. It’s two opposites, or is it? I think they are one in the same and I absolutely did not plan on writing this post but after submitting my guest post over at The InfoPreneur called nothing is perfect so quit trying… Huh? And then reading the lost art of failure over at andbreak.com it really made me think. Do I want to fail or do I want to succeed?

My answer may surprise you.

Do It Wrong

You can’t have it all in life. No one can, which is why time exists and which is also why we’re all striving to become better selves and make the world a better place in our own ways. We have to mess up and we have to break things sometimes. We also must learn that doing it wrong isn’t bad. It’s GREAT!

The school system I was in taught us that doing it wrong was only bad depending on the situation. I loved where I graduated from and am not going to attack the way I was taught. I made many friends there (some of who I no longer talk to) and am very happy to have went to school there.

I just think that we should all learn that doing it wrong is just the road closer to doing it right, and wrong again.

Do It Right

No! Don’t do it right! Are you really sure you’re even doing it right? Are you absolutely positive about this? If you are then go right ahead and continue. If you’re not sure then I suggest you figure things out before you go ahead. I say this because you need to look at the big picture and understand instead of just do.

Just doing isn’t a bad thing but understanding what you’re just doing is a great thing and is what will help you do it right next time. I hate waiting to get things right sometimes myself but we all have to do it. It’s how life works. You can’t beat the system because it’s what we all live by.

So learn to do it the right way before just jumping onto it like fire. Make it realistic.

Why

Personally, I feel this is the ultimate question you can ever ask. Why do it wrong? Why do it right? Why do it at all, which also leads to who cares but that’s in just a minute. Lets instead focus on where we’re at.

You have to have a why. If not then why not? Have a reason for what you want to do and you’ll have it done faster than you might think. I recently worked my damn ass off to get my car out of the snow where it had been all winter. I was focused on getting it out and determined it was going to get out TODAY! I certainly did NOT get it out for a few todays but finally did. The reason is because I wanted to drive it and listen, once again, to my kick ass stereo system and enjoy driving my car once again just because I could.

Maybe you don’t agree and that’s ok. But that was my why and you need one too. I promiss you won’t regret it.

Who Cares

I’m going to make this stupid simple: You. Or you should. If not, no one else will. Period. You have to care if you want to make it happen. Others might also care for you and care about you making something happen but if it’s not what they’re also doing then they don’t really care. You have to care about something in order to make it happen. Care about your failure in order to allow yourself to succeed. Sure allow others help along the way but if you don’t care why should they?

Again, this line is so important: Care about your failure in order to allow yourself to succeed.

It Comes Down To You

Failure and success is your responsibility and you should focus on that. If you fail (which I really would rather use the word mess up actually) then you need to decide what you’re going to do to begin making success. Think about it, learn it, do it, mess up (fail), keep going and make it happen for yourself. You deserve it.

Everyone, Every One, Every(One)

Ok, this is where it comes down to us all being everyone and us all being one. We all are going to fail, mess up, screw up, whatever you want to call it. Have you EVER thought that your failure is actually your success. Seriously. You are doing things right and having a great time. That’s wonderful, it really is. But are you getting further for very long and learning anything? Nope. You exactly where you wanted to be but there’s always more you CAN be. So go for it and mess up so you can learn what it takes to get even further than you WERE.

It comes down to you but also everyone else to help you. After all, the world is just about you but it takes you and every one to allow things to happen.

Be one and be among everyone therefore making everyone one.

So… Do you want to fail with me and create success for the future?

I do know there are a lot of ‘why’s’ I wonder about in my life and that I’ll never know the answers to those why’s. Even the steps I’m about to take. For every why, there is a why not.

Hey Moon,

“For every why, there is a why not” this reminds me of that law about for every action is an opposite and equal action or something. I know that can’t be correct but close maybe?

Anyway, that’s what you said reminds me of and I like it!

Thanks! :)

Eric,

I love this, “Care about your failure in order to allow yourself to succeed.” Failure and success are regular bed partners. There is little between them.

I once listened to a presentation by a unversity lecturer, he was asking the students to come to the unversity to study, “come and join us and learn to break something . . .” Powerful stuff.

Hey there Paul,

Yes, they are both one in the same actually. It really takes both in order to get further. Success teaches us nothing but makes us feel better. Failure teaches us success AND makes us feel better, I think.

Thanks for sharing! :)

Hey Eric,

Perfection is a disease in today’s society. I used to be infected, but I think I’m cured now. Well, sort of.

I do believe in the unsafe way. Making creative mistakes along the journey.
Screw up as often as possible, only remembering to do each mistake only once.

I’m turning it into a daily habit to allow making “bad” decisions – try fail try fail try fail – and so on.
It’s an exciting and if you keep going, you’ll find your own unique voice that will shine bright.

Mars,

I like that: try fail try fail try fail – and so on. Make bad choices remembering to correct them. Without mistakes you simply cannot succeed for the simple fact that no one knows everything and we all know very little. It’s a game and you have to learn how to play and along the way pick and choose what you think is right while deciding if what you picked is worth it and if not, changing it.

Great comment! :)

The why’s? Well, ever think maybe we dwell to much on the bad or even the good and most people can’t even live in the moment? Doing something wrong is for sure a good lesson, but doing it over and over again, well, is that really learned. I’m still wondering. As always, you are a great blogger Eric.

Hey there,

Thanks for the compliment. I think we all have our own perspective about what learning really takes and really is. Bottom line, as long as we’re all striving for doing just that, we should be on the right track.

Thanks! :)

“If there exists no possibility of failure, then victory is meaningless.” – Robert H. Schuller

I think that quote sums it up Eric. Making mistakes is how we learn. I make mistakes all the time (some I probably shouldn’t) but its cool because I learn and there is nothing more beautiful than learning something new.

Alex,

Learning something new is definitely awesome even if it’s not just learning from a mistake. Learning in general is kick ass I think. If we can all learn to keep learning and keep going and get better and better, the better we’ll all be!

Great comment, I like that quote by the way, I hadn’t heard it yet.

Failure seen as success is a delicious way of looking at it. One thing I’ve come to appreciate is that it is not helpful to look back at past decisions that didn’t work out as the wrong decisions IF they were the right decision given what we knew and felt at the time. Hindsight is useful BUT a devil in disguise if we let it interfere with the learning process. Wise post my friend.

Hey Eric. Thanks for mentioning my article. It’s weird I think I commented on this post before but it somehow didn’t submit my comment.
I have to say I totally agree with Paul on this one when he said: “Failure and success are regular bed partners. There is little between them.”
Having the right attitude will turn failure into a success.

Julius,

That’s pretty cool: “Having the right attitude will turn failure into a success.” And so true it is. You have to actually do something but if you’re positive enough to get through situations, they’ll get better.

It’s also nice to have a support team beside you when things are tough. You just gotta remember to be there for them too!

Great comment man! :)
