Every day of our lives we’re going to make mistakes of some kind. You can’t avoid it which makes it obvious that they’re going to happen and may even make you wonder what the point is of correcting them. Simple. To learn and improve yourself so better things start coming your way.
But what if you’re happy with your current results and yet a mistake still haunts you?
Don’t Try Avoiding
Yes I said don’t try avoiding your mistakes. Let them come naturally but what you do about learning from them you should definitely not take lightly or they’ll just repeat themselves. Always let mistakes happen in order to learn from them but work hard not to make the same mistakes more than once. That’s the key, learning from them. When you try and avoid making a mistake you know is coming or even don’t know, you’re not going to learn anything.
I’m not saying to purposely make mistakes but when they happen, be ok with them and go on.
The Point Of Learning
So, with all this taking action stuff being said everywhere and learning from mistakes and the fact that nothing is ever going to be perfect no matter how hard we work to make it that way, what’s the freakin’ point of learning in the end anyway?
Damn good question!
To know.
Tha’ts it. I’m not going to rant on about something I can make as simple as two words. We learn new things in order to know them. Why? Because the more you know and who you know is better than not knowing and not experiencing. You can get more detailed about that but I’m not going to right here.
The point is, learn so that you know. Great example: Your car breaks down. You have no idea what went wrong and people start telling you it’s a piece of crap and that they’ll happily buy it from you. It’s not a bad car and you haven’t had it long. You have no other source of transportation to use to get around except your feet. You have a job and no money in savings for repair. You feel screwed and maybe you are.
Are you going to listen to them and sell your car to them for money without knowing what went wrong just because they all say it’s bad and they’d just rather take it off your hands and give you some cash for it or are you going to take matters into your own hands and figure out what went wrong and find out if it’s worth selling to them or saying screw them and fixing ‘er up?
That’s up to you but the least I would do personally is figure out what went wrong and then make the decision. If you know, you’re better off. If you don’t, well, that’s just it, you don’t know.
Let Negativity Be The Guide To Positivity
Some people are going to be negative about a lot of things. I’ve been through some shit at the end of last year that made me more negative than ever before. I’m a pessimist at heart and have been working on being an optimist and so far so good for me.
If you let negativity show you how you don’t want to be and take advice from those kinds of people and just learn from how horrid they are and understand you’re better than that, that’s good. Let them be your guide to understanding what you don’t want out of life and discovering how great your life can truly be. It can if you let it. It also can be horribe if you let it. It’s up to you to decide though.
So what do you think? Do you let your mistakes guide you or do you hide from it all and never move on in life and learn to face new challenges and become a better person?

Mistakes are a way of life. Being able to learn from and bounce back onto the right path is what will set you apart from many others.

So true and I need to also learn how to do that quite a lot myself. Much easier said than done but that’s why we all have each other for support.
Glad to see you here!
It’s a cliche that’s been overstated way too many times but I have to say I’ve learned a LOT more from my mistakes than from my successes.
What’s better… knowing what to do or knowing how not to screw up?
A mistake is only a failure if you don’t learn anything.

Jason,
Very true. I feel people use the word mistakes too much. You ARE going to mess up but if you learn from it and move on then you haven’t failed at all. So that being said, it makes me really wonder how people (including myself) can call them mistakes.
Thanks for sharing!
You say “Don’t Try Avoiding” but what if we are repeating the same mistake again.

I agree. I also think that making mistakes a few times allow us to learn better than just once though.

Eric,
Life is full of challenges, which if treated as such will become worthy learning experiences. I agree with Ryan here. It’s not so much taking the knock but how you deal with it and continue towards your goal. What are you going to learn from it?
Great post.

This is very true and it’s also something a lot of people struggle with, myself included. Life is going to happen. We don’t have to learn from our mistakes but it helps and we really should. Getting through situations and moving on in life is what will make things all the better.
Thanks!
I try my best to learn from my mistakes, but sometimes I am still haunted by my past mistakes and this even leads me to commit the same ones.
I drink a lot, but I managed to lessen it significantly. But sometimes opportunity knocks and I tend to overlook the things I’ve learned from the mistake of giving in to this vice.
The thing that helps me through is having a close friend remind me that I’m starting to slip away. I know a lot of people who manage to learn and avoid the same mistakes on their own, but for me, it’s always through the support of others. I realize though that I need to be able to stand on my own most of the time.

It helps to have good people who can be there and help guide us when we’re possibly going down a path that might not be so good for us. Being there for each other makes a significant difference.
Thanks for the comment!
Great advice, Eric
I think the first mistake we make is not allowing ourselves to admit our mistakes.
Failure is a part of life and happens to everyone, regardless of who you are or how long you have been practicing your craft. You would have won gold medals at all your competitions, but like anyone else can have a bad day or get distracted, and boom! you’re off the podium. It’s those that get back into the game that are true winners. They don’t allow their mistakes or failures to define who they are.

I couldn’t agree more. Everyone will make mistakes regardless of how great they are at what they do. It’s the way of life. The point is to get back up there and keep going, maybe doing things differently, but to keep going. Those people move on and keep things happening and make life what it’s worth.
Love your outlook!
Hey Eric. I really enjoyed reading your point of view on failing. I totally agree with you that you shouldn’t avoid making mistakes. Actually you can’t anyway.
And it’s indeed important to learn from others. To let others guide you. I mean where would we be without the help of others. I hope that some day I will be able to give everything back that I have received in life.

Great to hear and I’m sure many people feel the same way. I know I want to give back everything I’ve gotten from life. Keep track of things and write lots down and then keep going and someday I’m sure you’ll be able to. Just gotta believe.
Thanks!
Yeah I think it’s important. You gotta let others know that you appreciate what they are doing and how they are helping you.
Btw. what’s your goal with this blog? Is it just to share your thoughts on the world and life? You gotta have a mission Eric
Thanks for the amazing comment

Hey Julius,
Right now to share my experiences and gain more knowledge in the blogging field of things. I do want to monetise things later on just not sure how or when yet.
Glad you took notice!
You know the thing that comes to my mind every single time I make a mistake? Its the saying my grandfather used to say to me when I was really little.
Why do we fall down? To pick ourselves up again.
So why do we make mistakes? So we can solve them the next time we come around to that same mistake. When I make a mistake in math class I learn quickly not to make it again. My mind remembers that the mistakes is bad.
mistake + math = F
I can’t have that so I know I have to pick myself up again no matter what will happen if I do.
Dex,
I can see what you mean. Your grandfather sounds like he was a very smart man. We all are going to make mistakes in our lives. However, we shouldn’t focus too much on those but instead focus on what we can learn from them and then do it. That is what makes us who we truly are and the faster we can realise that and make it our reality the faster we can arrive where we want to be in this life.
Thanks so much for the comment!
I make mistakes all the time and I learn from them. I admit to them and I accept them. I work to not make the same mistake again and each mistake made is a lesson learned. Agree with you very much so Eric

Great post, but if that car was my ex I would sell it in a minute haha, but mistakes, hmmmm why do we repeat them? Someone once told me that the familiar is more comfortable and maybe that we just feel better know we can control the comfortable. The unknown is less familiar therefore we are reluctant. However, I have realized all my mistakes were not without an advantage. I am learning to finally realize that I am a good person, and I will have the strength to finally become strong and ward off bad people in my life and not let them get the best of me. Thank Eric. Good inspiration for me this morning.
Hey Butterfly!
Mistakes do provide us with an advantage if we are willing to go the distance and realise what’s going on.
Thanks!
Eric,
This one’s hard to bite the bullet. You can’t learn without trying things yet we’re so unhappy if we fail at something.
The lessons learned are invaluable and can be applied the next time you try…

It’s a shame mostly because so many people aren’t willing to mess up in order to get ahead in their lives and they just can’t get past the mistakes. It’s never failure unless you actually completely give up and refuse to move on.
Thanks!
I fully understand people who avoid their mistakes or go through life very careful not to have any. They are driven by fear of rejection and failure.
They believe that if they make a mistake that they will be cast out by friends and family or be the scorn of society.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Most people don’t care if you make mistakes because they’ve been there before you.
Mistakes are a learning opportunity. learn from them and everything else in life and go on and be the most successful version of you that you can.
Ben,
Honestly, you said it!
Make mistakes, learn from them and keep going. You’re only doing it wrong when you don’t do a damn thing in the first place.
Good to see you!
