This is probably a title that attracted some attention and it should. Believe it or not this post isn’t actually about making any kind of money with your blog or even NOT making money with your blog. It’s well worth the read so read on.
Penny
I don’t know about you but I see pennies every day of my life on the road and even in my couch. They’re everywhere and they’re all the same. Same color and same size and they’re all worth the same too. But, they all add up very quickly and before you know it you have a small bit of cash in your hand. Of course pennies don’t add up very large amounts of money but they’re still worth something and money is money after all. Bottom line, they’re small and worth the least but they’re every where and easy to find.
Nickel
No harder to spot than your penny but the nickel is worth 5 cents and adds up much quicker because of this. You can probably find these in all the same places and they’re all the same color as well. Nothing more to these except they add up much quicker.
Dime
Not much more to add here. The dime is worth 5 more cents than nickel is and can be found in all the same places as well. Just more money.
Quarter
This guy is worth quite a bit more than even the dime and is a bit harder to find. You can still pick these up pretty easily but even so, you won’t find these every where. A cool thing about the quarter is that these are popular for more use like washing machines and candy machines in the mall and such too!
Ah… The Dollar
I’m talking about a paper dollar here, not the coin. The coin is even more rare as far as I know so we’ll stick with the paper dollar and that’s exactly why. You can find a dollar laying on the street or something as well but finding a dollar just lying around isn’t likely to happen so much as other money as mentioned before here. The dollar adds up a lot faster than all of these combined because it’s worth much more.
What does all of this have to do with your blog?
You decide.
What do you want to get out of your blog or better yet, what do you want your reader to get out of your blog? Do you want to be everywhere and easy to find like the penny or much harder to find but worth a lot more like the dollar?
Personally I would like to know that I’m both. In fact, better yet I would really like to know that I’m just a little bit of all of the coins put together.
I want to be easily found like the penny which can be picked up pretty much anywhere and is worth something the more places you find one as they add up quickly.
I want to be in the same position as the nickel as it’s worth a bit more than the penny and still very easily found.
I want to be like the dime where I can just as easily be found once again and add up even faster yet.
I also would love to be like the quarter and add up even quicker and be discovered even more places as well as valuable to even more of a variety of different people with different needs.
And I would absolutely and completely love to be like the dollar bill which kicks all their asses in value and is just a bit harder to be found but still hold a place around the web when all the change is added up over time.
You can find any of these coins pretty much anywhere, literally. They all have their own value to you and they all add up quicker than one another. The dollar is much more valuable and is a bit harder to find, however.
Strive to be in each group and remain focused on your objective to the people who give you that value each day. They determine what you’re worth and how easy you are to be found. Give them value and work your ass off and soon, possibly, hopefully, just maybe your blog will go from the value of a penny into a nickel and all the way clear up to the dollar bill and more!
What do you think you would like to be?
Penny, Nickel, Dime, Quarter or Dollar Bill? Or all added up over time?

I think I’m a bit like you Eric, I’d like to be a bit of all of them. Possibly more of a quarter gal than a dollar though (eventually, I mean).
Loved the analogy, fits very well

Hey Heather, yeah it’s good to also choose one to be even if it’s just for a while and a quarter is something good to pick. Glad you stopped by and thanks for the comment!

Can’t really say I would like to be like change lol however on just the money part it is very easy to find pennies, I find them all the time at work which I end turn give to you when I get hurt.
I believe that if you have luck on your side or just lucking in general then yeah you could find a dollar bill just laying there. Like once I found a 20 dollar bill at my last job. Another time I was coming home from high school and found a 5 dollar bill in the parking lot.
My point is (and I know your thinking “its about time”) You are very right as far as it would be great to be a little of all of them combined because that way you know your work is wanted and appreciated but also easy to find to those who are not capable of finding things easily on the Internet (coming from a true blonde herself)

Thanks for the comment Samantha. Yeah you’ve gotten lucky at your job and such finding money like you have. Either way, it was there for a reason. And yes it’s nice to be appreciated for your hard work whether you’re easily found or not.

A coin dollar is easily found here. The paper dollar is rare. I’d like to be a rare find, but I’m happy to be anything of worth.

Hey Rose, that’s interesting… It’s always cool to hear how different other areas of the world are compared to one another in any kind of way. A rare fine would be very cool as it’d show you’re worth quite a lot and I can understand that.
Thanks for the comment!

I like your analogy, Eric. Blogs are “a dime a dozen” these days, so it can be hard to find the truly valuable ones. A little bit (of posting, of marketing) over time adds up though, so I advise everyone to keep working diligently on your blog goals. And keep having fun, otherwise, why do it?

Eric,
I’d have to say I would be a penny. I may be small and look just like everyone else or maybe there is some grim or rust covering me, but somewhere behind all that is a whole lot of information that I didn’t even expect to find. I love pennies. There is so many of them and they can be so many things besides money. There’s billions of people on earth… and their are billions more pennies.

Dex, even being a penny on this earth as crazy as it sounds you can still stand out from the crowd it just takes lots of hard work. Keep rockin’ it out there!
Thanks!

Me, I’m partial to the mill. These were red and green plastic coins that got you a ride on the street car when I was a toddler. I know this is pre-history but I liked those mills.

Wow! What a great article and you’ve made me think, Eric
I wasn’t sure where the post was going as I thought maybe you were going to talk about saving money with your blog, but you surprised me how you related it to what you want your blog to be – the penny and/or the dollar.
” Do you want to be everywhere and easy to find like the penny or much harder to find but worth a lot more like the dollar? ” — love this!
I want to be both, like you said. Easily picked up and yet when found, made the person feel a lot better by finding me
Great article!

Hey Karen, thanks so much for the comment!
Yeah I thought this would put a spin on things and I’m glad it has helped people look at blogging and such from a different perspective. I feel if you work smart enough at it you can actually become both easy to find and worth a lot and therefore you’ve reached a point where things just click. This doesn’t mean you can stop but you can slow down a bit and look at where things are and determine what should be done from this point on.
It’s a very catchy title isn’t it?
It’s articles like this that I believe have the most impact on people’s lives and I’m extremely happy you got something out of it.
Thanks again!

Nice post man. I think at some level we all want to feel significant in our blogger. We want people to look to us and our writing to help and inspire them.
I think there’s a lesson for life here. If you look at the metaphor of the coins you mention and change them so that each one represent good things you do in life you can be inspired to better things in life.
You can do the big positive things in life that make a big difference. Or we can be do lots and lots pennies and let their power add up to a massive impression on other people’s lives.
