Popping Out Of The Blue With A Different Approach To Blogging

The Most Money You’ll Ever Make With Your Blog

As I’m writing this post I’m currently at www.theinfopreneur.net blog. I’ve been reading a lot of the articles on there and leaving comments which I hope will add good value to what is already existing on the site.

I believe you can make any amount of money you want to with your blog as long as you’re willing to do whatever it takes to get the results you’re after.

Content

Write, write, write and, well, write some more. Keep writing. In fact, never stop writing. I recommend writing even if you do video and pod casts on your blog. The more content you present your audience and the more options you give them the better chance they have at access to what they’re after. Keep in mind that you need to give them useful information that will help them and solve their problems and entertain them. This is key if you want to repeat visitors to your blog.

Make Your Mark! (I got this from blotit.com actually)

I like this because it’s just what it says: make your mark. You need to go out there and push through the crowd and find out who’s there and what they like and give them exactly what they want. Make yourself visible to the world because the world isn’t going to come looking for you. If you build it only you will come and maybe your best friend. If you want the world to see what you have then you need to spell it out for them and keep on it. That will do the trick and it’s what works. So keep at it.

Give Before You Get

You gotta love this one for a few reasons. (1) It’s basically the same as mentioned above because you need to put yourself out there to get anything back. (2) Get involved with the crowd you’re chasing and let them know what you have to offer and then ask them if they wouldn’t mind helping you a bit. Do this and you’ll see how powerful it is to become successful faster.

Come Out Into The Sun Already

Sometimes you need to do a little extra than just post articles and market yourself and leave comments. How about applying the “give before you get” method and do something like a guest post? This way you know your writing is getting better and you’re not getting even more noticed by people who really matter. Who knows, someone may want to guest post on your blog next! That’s huge!

You Thought This Was Easy?

Building a professional blog is not easy or everyone would have one. Don’t get confused by easy and having fun though. You should be having fun because even though this is work it is what will help you succeed in the world of blogging and the Internet. Some days may be a drag but if there’s to many then something isn’t right. Bottom line, however, is that this isn’t going to be easy if you want to go pro. Consistency and smart work are both required so keep at it and never give up.

After doing all of this and more and making mistakes and learning from those mistakes you’d think there’d be some money to be made, right? Well, maybe. It just depends on what you’re doing right and how often your doing it. Experiment and find out what works best for you. I believe anyone can honestly make a buck blogging if they work at it but it’s takes a lot to get there. How much you earn is up to how willing you are to do all of this and more.

Have you made any money with your blog yet and if so what are some good methods you recommend using to bring in that first dollar?

I clicked over from a comment you left on my blog (thanks) and noticed right off the bat you mentioned James over at Infopreneur.

I retweeted your article, but had to manually change the @ to your twitter name, you can change this in the settings of the tweetmeme plugin, just replace @tweetmeme with your twitter name, then everytime someone retweets your post, you will know it.

    Followed you on twitter too!

Excellent; 5 great points to keep in mind, delivered in a clear, concise way (oh god, I sound like an English teacher now). Loved it :)

Not made money on my blog yet, but I am very new so not exactly in any rush. Doing it because I love it!

    Hether,

I’m glad you liked it. I haven’t made any money yet myself and I plan to make true relationships that have more meaning than just a dollar or two. Once this is established then I’ll go about building up some things that will help those and earn a bit. Not entirely clear on what I want to do. Still thinking of ideas and am open to everyone’s thoughts on this.

    Thanks for dropping by! :)

It’s important to build a following first before worrying about monetizing. Many bloggers spend way too much time in the first few months trying to get their ads right.

For some micro-sites, they might make money short term. But in order to earn consistently in the long run, it takes a commitment from the blogger to connect with his audience.

You couldn’t be more right. If you build something quick and you actually do make a few dollars, great. But in order for something that lasts and makes it all worthwhile you need to work on connecting and building a relationship based on trust and with the right people.

I have to admit that when I started my blog I had $$ signs in my eyes. Now that it’s been a while I realize that it takes a ton of work. I originally had a few affiliate adds, but I’ve dropped most of them for now. Now is the time for concentrating on developing relationships as you say, with both loyal readers and other bloggers. After I get serious traffic numbers, then that will be the time to worry about monetizing it. At least that’s my take on it.

    Ray, how are you?

I agree. Money shouldn’t be your focus with a blog or website unless you’re just going to throw the website up and leave it to attract income alone. Though I’m not even sure how that works as I’ve never done it.

Relationships and helping people out is really what the world is all about. It truly seems people forget this when they hear about making money online. Worry about more important things like helping one another out with solving their problems and fast!

Money will follow as it’s meant to. Years down the road who knows what will happen but this is my take on it for now.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

I’m not convinced that you (or at least I) can make money by blogging. I do believe that delivering quality content and building readers is a skill that is useful for making money in other ways. I wouldn’t have anything against making money as a blogger but I believe that there are more efficient and less time-intensive techniques.

    Hi Ralph,

Well, most people are working their regular go-to jobs and blogging part time trying to build something up. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, I believe that blogging should really be used for helping others out and if money is there, great. If not, you’ve given all you could and that’s what life is really about. Giving. You take when someone gives back to you so just give first.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by! :)

    Hi Eric,

This is a really good article and have retweeted it. I hope it works :-)

I had to laught at the “You Thought This Was Easy”. No, it definitely is not easy. People who go into blogging believing that they will be making pots full of money will be disabused of that notion very quickly. It takes a lot of HARD work to see any sort of return on your investment. Blogging is no different.

I can’t give any tips on the first dollar, my site is too new for that, but over time I hope to recoup my initial investment. Fingers crossed. Besides, I’m not in soley for the money :-)

    Karen,

Yes most people seem to think that blogging is a quick way to a lot of money on the Internet. Wrong! Ask anyone who’s ever made any real money online (I’m not that person myself just yet) and they can tell you it is not an easy process. Just look around. There are very few who are making real money online and those who are have busted their ass doing something that actually works: work. lol

I checked out your blog and I really like how you have useful information on how to save money and things you can do to improve your life a bit, little by little. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! :)

The economy right now is bad but I look at it as a good thing as it being so will teach everyone to quit going into debt who have done so and things of that nature. Of course, not everyone is bad with money but for those who are it’s always a good lesson to learn.

Selling something on a website or blog is definitely not a bad thing if you’re doing it the right way. Keep teaching and I’ll keep tippin’ lol.

    Have a great day! :)

I’ve made some bucks, not a great deal but enough to pay all my expenses with some left over to buy some electronic toys. The way I’ve made the money is via affiliates, adsense and doing paid posts.

I agree you need to write even if you do video posts because the bots can’t watch videos so I doubt they’ll get listed in the SERPS without a narrative explaining what it’s about complete with the right keywords etc.

Nice post and I’ve tweeted it as well.

    Sire,

    Thanks the visit!

There are some small ways of making money, yes. Affiliates are one way but even with those you need to have some trusting readers who want what you have to offer. Adsense is the same way and I haven’t heard too much about paid posts.

Videos are a very creative and productive way to interact with your readers as it shows that you’re literally a human being and you are putting fourth more effort in what you do to help them and connect with them. I have some ideas I’m going to research about videos and pod casts and will be writing a blog post about those in the future.

Thanks for the tweet, it’s appreciated.

Stop by any time. Without my readers I’m nothing and with you I’m everything! :)

    Hi Eric,
A belated “Happy Birthday!” It was daughter’s 5th birthday yesterday so we’re big into balloons and cake around here right now. I remember the ‘wow, I’m 22′ feeling. I’ll be a decade older than you in June but in my head I’m still about 12 ;)

Aside from sending birthday greetings I also wanted to thank you for your post. Until 2010 I had no idea that people were trying to make money blogging. I thought the blog was just about letting folks know what you were up to either personally or on a business level. You can imagine the steep (but fun ;) ) learning curve this has been.

As for guest posts and ‘give before you get’, would you recommend being proactive with this? I’d always tend to wait to be offered that honour but do you think we should be offering more?

    Eleanor

    Eleanor,

Great to see you and thanks for the comment!

22 is definitely going to be a tremendous year for me and I’m going to make the most of every day I have at this age. That’s really cool to hear about your daughter’s 5th birthday being yesterday! Happy Birthday to your daughter. :)

I remember back then and how fun it was and cake and ice cream and all… I miss those days.

On another note. Blogging definitely has many advantages other than personal or business and it is very fun indeed. You can learn so much from blogs so quickly that it can get overwhelming very fast. Just hang in there and do it because you love your readers and have something to share with them that will benefit their daily lives a bit more. Show them you care and learn all you can and don’t be afraid to just in and experiment.

As for the guest posting, my recommendation is if you want to guest post just ask. The worst you’re going to hear is someone say no and quite frankly I know of no blogger who would turn down the opportunity to gladly help someone out. Believe me on this.
Going to rap this up here with letting you know that I, in fact just had my very first guest post (because I just asked how to go about doing it) published yesterday on Sarge’s blog at BeginnerBlogger.com/blogging-made-simple/.

I’m very proud of this and I see many more opportunities to do similar guest posts around the web.

Okay, this is where I’ll end this. Eleanor just get out there and get in the crowd and show what you have to offer. Soon I will be offering Gust Posting on here as well.

    Go out and have fun!

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and for stopping by! :)

Back again. Paid posts are where advertisers pay you to write a post about their product or service. When I was trialling them out to see how much I could make I was averaging around 200-300 dollars a week. Once I proved you could actually make money doing paid posts I pretty well stopped pursuing them. Now I only do it when they approach me with an interesting topic, and naturally the dollar value must be just right ;)

That’s not bad for a week’s worth of income though everyone’s budget is a little different I’m sure.

I also think you would get much more satisfaction selling a product that you create or that you use are are offering your readers.

    Tech,

Well, as I’m learning it’s a very long term way of making money and you really have to bust ass to get anywhere. Mainly, helping and solving people’s problems is what I believe will work out best however possible, except scamming people.

That being said, talking with your readers and informing them you’re going to start doing some things in order to bring in some money and seeing what they come back to you with is a good idea, I think. Ask those who make money what they suggest also.

I haven’t done this yet as I’m not planning on making money at this point in time. I will in the future, however.

Hang in there… I love your article about watching TV on your PC by the way.

    Stop by any time! :)
